Manchester United’s pursuit of Sandro Tonali, aged 25, has been handed a significant boost by Newcastle United’s summer plans.

Under Eddie Howe, and with the financial muscle of the Saudi Public Investment Fund, Newcastle United have sought to cement themselves among the Premier League’s elite.

For two successive seasons, they qualified for the Champions League, which was a clear sign of progress.

This campaign, however, has been a stark contrast. Indeed, the Magpies have faltered badly, slipping to 12th in the table and facing the very real prospect of missing out on European football altogether.

Consequently, as ambitious as they are, change is inevitable.

Major overhaul at St James’ Park

According to Teamtalk, Howe wants full backing to reshape his squad, though that may necessitate high‑profile departures. The report explains:

“Howe believes the squad is not equipped to challenge for trophies consistently… a major overhaul is now on the agenda, and that will include high‑profile departures as well as key additions.

“Players such as Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento are among those who could be moved on as part of a wider shake‑up.”

United big winners

For United fans, these admissions will inevitably fuel hope of landing one of Europe’s top midfielders, often likened to Andrea Pirlo. Moreover, Howe himself once confessed:

“When I first saw Sandro play, there were definite links to Pirlo, without a doubt, and it’s not just the hair.”

Tonali reportedly has a gentleman’s agreement that permits him to negotiate with leading clubs should Newcastle United fail to secure European football. Therefore, that combined with the club’s apparent willingness to sanction sales, means the ball is firmly in Manchester United’s court.

As a result, INEOS must step forward, convince Tonali to snub other suitors, and be prepared to break the bank for his signature.

A natural heir to Casemiro

Tonali’s defensive steel, relentless energy, and tactical intelligence make him an ideal heir to Casemiro. Furthermore, he offers Premier League‑proven combativeness, mobility, and the ability to anchor midfield with the stability qualities that United desperately need as they plan for the future.
