Maroan Sannadi’s wait for a start with Athletic goes on. Named for his first XI since a Champions League visit to Borussia Dortmund on 1 October 2025, the Levante away match was postponed on Wednesday due to a severe storm.
According to as.com, the fixture will be rearranged with La Liga and both clubs, likely between 20 and 22 October. It would have been 350 days on from his last start, and the eventual line-up could differ, so Sannadi must wait again.
His rise had been startling, yet competition from Gorka Guruzeta, Iñaki Williams, Izeta and Álex Berenguer has been intense. A meniscus operation sidelined the Vitoria-born striker for five months.
Athletic host Alavés at San Mamés on Saturday, Sannadi’s former club, for whom Athletic paid €4.5 million. The context has shifted since the Levante postponement.
Iñaki Williams has overcome workload issues and a foot knock, while Guruzeta is back from a muscle injury and had been named in the Levante squad. Both, initially pencilled in as substitutes, seem ahead in Edin Terzic’s thinking for the number nine role against Quique Sánchez Flores’s team.
