Santos are handling the contract terminations of João Basso and Tomás Rincón cautiously, keeping both training at CT Rei Pelé. The stance aims to avoid legal disputes and maintain an amicable process.
According to Diario Do Peixe, the club have kept the issue discreet after leaks angered both camps and prompted online celebrations from some fans. There is concern this could hamper moves, so the board await signed agreements.
Basso joined from Arouca in 2023, and Santos have been hit with a transfer ban for non-payment on that deal. He played early, was injured, then returned for the run-in that included relegation.
Loaned to Estoril in 2024, he came back mid-year and, without proposals, was reintegrated for Série B. He fell out of favour after July 2025, reappeared on four February against São Paulo in the Brasileiro, then featured versus Athletico-PR. He is contracted until year-end and has 36 games and three goals.
Rincón arrived in August 2023 as a free agent after Italy stints with Juventus and Sampdoria, took the armband and made 16 appearances in the survival bid. He accepted a pay cut in early 2024 to stay, then extended his deal in August 2025 to December 2026.
His package is around R$ 500,000 per month, including salary, signing-on fee and image rights. Despite his leadership, he lost ground in 2025 and has only seven minutes in 2026’s Campeonato Paulista.
