Santos have set Neymar’s return date after the World Cup, with the attacking midfielder due to report on Friday 17. He will miss the club’s first Brasileirão match back, away to Botafogo on 16 in Rio de Janeiro.
According to Diario Do Peixe, he travelled to Orlando to celebrate his daughter’s birthday after Brazil’s elimination against Norway.
Neymar has a contract through to the end of the year, and his continuation this season had been in doubt amid talk of overseas offers and his aim of playing a final World Cup. His father and friend Cris Guedes posted on social media urging him to keep playing. He has said this would be his last World Cup with Brazil, and also posted ‘The Last Dance’.
With his return set for 17, he is unavailable for Botafogo but may be in contention for Copa Sudamericana ties against UCV.
Forward Gustavo Caballero will also report next week, with the Paraguayan scheduled to start training on Tuesday 14.
Caballero spent the first half of the year on loan at Portsmount in England and, with that spell over, returns as an in-house option. Despite the transfer ban, he can be reinstated on the BID because he belongs to the club and was only on loan.
He was on the bench for Paraguay in the group stage at the World Cup, then came on in the second half in the round of 32, during their heroic qualification against Germany, and in the last 16 elimination by France.
