Talks between Santos and São Paulo over defender Robert Arboleda have stalled and, for now, the move is unlikely. According to Diario Do Peixe, discussions are expected to be shelved unless one side shifts position.
Santos recently approached São Paulo to gauge the terms of a possible deal, but negotiations did not progress due to a difference in terms.
The structure of any agreement is the main sticking point. Santos are seeking a reduced fee or even a free transfer, while São Paulo do not plan to release the player on those terms.
Internally, São Paulo's view is that, although the centre-back is not in the coaching staff's plans and has not played since March, any exit would require a fee or compensation deemed satisfactory by the club.
The interest from Santos had the approval of coach Cuca, who worked with Arboleda during his spell at São Paulo in 2019, and he wants to strengthen his defence.
Arboleda is currently training away from the main squad. He was moved to train apart after remaining in Ecuador for around one month beyond the period initially set by the club, which strained his relationship with the board. He is under contract with São Paulo until the end of 2027.
