Sarah Richmond, wife of Julian Weigl, has expressed a wish to live in Portugal again after the couple’s recent trip.
In a social media post, Richmond said she hopes one day to call the country home again. The pair visited Benfica and Weigl, now with Saudi side Al Qadsiah after leaving in 2022, shared an image from inside Estádio da Luz while attending the 3-0 win over V. Guimarães on matchday 27.
Her message spoke of a deep affection for Portugal, describing it as their first home away from home and a place where they grew as individuals, as a couple and as a family. She added that small moments, from a pastel de nata to the sea breeze, make it feel as if they never left, and that the country remains a refuge when life feels too loud.
The couple recently lost a child during pregnancy. Richmond shared a hospital photo at the time and expressed the pain of the moment, saying they viewed it not as a failed pregnancy but as their baby they would never be able to hold.
Weigl made 115 appearances for Benfica, scoring five goals and providing five assists. He was part of the 2022-23 title-winning campaign under Roger Schmidt, playing twice in the league despite not finishing the season at the club.
