Fabio Grosso has officially departed Sassuolo following a mutual termination of his contract, clearing the path for the 2006 World Cup winner to take charge at Fiorentina in what is expected to be confirmed imminently.
Sassuolo announced the agreement in a brief official statement, thanking Grosso and his staff for their work across two seasons that included a promotion to Serie A and an eleventh-place finish in the top flight this season.
The Italian coach had communicated his desire to leave some time ago, and the two parties have now formalised the separation.

Fiorentina have had an agreement in place with Grosso’s entourage for several weeks, with a two-year contract worth approximately €1.2 million per season agreed, plus an option for a third year.
The club were simply waiting for Sassuolo to release him before making the appointment official. Now that Grosso is free of any contractual obligations, sporting director Fabio Paratici can finalise the deal without delay.
The appointment will reunite the coach with Paratici, the man who gave him his first coaching opportunity in Juventus’s youth academy.
It represents the beginning of a new era at the Stadio Franchi following what was a deeply frustrating campaign under Stefano Pioli and Paolo Vanoli.
