SD ‘Carefully Evaluating’ Offer From Celtic As Bhoys In With ‘Significant Financial Proposal’ | OneFootball

Celtic have gone back in with another bid to try to sign Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis and the Italian club’s sporting director is ‘carefully evaluating’ what is described as a ‘significant financial proposal’.

Torino are selling winger Alieu Njie to fellow Serie A side Fiorentina in a move which reduces the financial pressure to also cash in on Gineitis this summer.

Celtic had an offer for the midfielder rejected earlier this summer and have continued to keep their interest in signing him alive.

Whether the Bhoys would come back with a fresh bid given they have been knocked out of the Champions League was open to question, but they have and are trying to sign the Lithuania international.

Celtic’s bid in for Gineitis is unclear, but according to Italian outlet Cuore Toro, it is ‘a significant financial proposal’ that the Scottish champions have put on the table.

The offer is now being ‘carefully evaluated’ by Torino’s sporting director Gianluca Petrachi, along with the club’s president Urbano Cairo.

It now remains to be seen if the proposal that Celtic have put on the table for the midfielder is enough to convince Torino to accept.

For Torino, selling Gineitis may be an attractive prospect, but it would also leave open the squad being weakened just before the closure of the transfer window.

Torino have also just sold Marcus Pedersen to Olympiacos and financial gain may not be the main motivating factor at play.

Celtic are bidding to back boss Martin O’Neill before the window slams shut, with concerns at Parkhead about the depth of the squad.

Despite missing out on the Champions League, Celtic still have the Europa League league phase to handle and that will mean at least eight more matches.
