Sevilla ‘to monitor’ Cásseres Jr as midfield option

Sevilla have added Cristian Cásseres Jr to their shortlist for midfield reinforcements, with any move dependent on exits and budget. L’Équipe reports that the Venezuelan is on their radar.

The 26-year-old plays for Toulouse and is under contract until 2027. A price tag around €9m is seen as a hurdle, and the Andalusian club are not inclined to reach that figure at present.

Current recruitment priorities remain a centre forward and a winger, according to Informe Morrocotudo. Any pursuit of Cásseres would therefore be shaped by how those positions are addressed.

Born in Caracas on 20 January 2000, he debuted for Deportivo La Guaira in 2016. He moved to New York Red Bulls in 2018, made more than 120 appearances, and left in 2023.

Toulouse signed him in July 2023 for about €1m. He has since passed 100 official games, featured in the Europa League, and earned over 40 caps for Venezuela since his 2020 debut.

A right-footed midfielder at 1.76 metres, he can operate as a pivot or in central roles. He offers intensity, ball recovery and secure distribution under pressure.

Interest could sharpen if Lucien Agoumé departs after a significant proposal from Neom SC, which may alter Sevilla’s plans. Cásseres would profile as cover at the base of midfield or to bolster the centre.

Sevilla have explored alternatives, with Ellyes Skhiri sounded out before he joined FC Colonia. For now, Cásseres remains a different option whose feasibility hinges on outgoings and freed resources in the coming weeks.
