Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder says the club are working “24/7” to bring in new signings after the Blades were held to a second consecutive goalless draw by Swansea City.

United are still waiting for their first win of the Championship season, but Wilder was encouraged by his side’s response to a difficult week off the pitch and praised their commitment to his game plan.

“There are people working away who understand my needs,” Wilder said on the efforts to make new signings.

“And I’m on them 24/7, keeping the hammer down, because of how important it is to improve this group of players. We’ve worked over the weekend and work is still going on now.

“They’re not straightforward deals. Hopefully we can get in what we need just to give the group a boost.”

Despite the lack of goals, Wilder was pleased with how his players responded to a difficult week off the pitch with uncertainty over the club’s future, after the company that bought Sheffield United was placed into liquidation following a winding-up petition from the club’s former owners.

“It’s been, as you understand, a difficult week for us, but the players had clarity of a game plan and committed to it,” he said.

“Everybody wanted to bash us over the head last week about the lack of chances that we’ve had and XG and stuff like that.

“To come here against a possession-based team that creates every week … I don’t think many teams will do what we’ve done today, statistically.

“It wasn’t a shape to be on the back foot, it was a shape to deal with their eights and deal with their threats, but create opportunities.

“We created the opportunities, with just a slight disappointment that we’ve not put our noses in front. Especially off the back of a week that we didn’t expect to have.”
