The offer led by former poker player James Bord was selected by administrators Begbies Traynor in December, and they are now awaiting ratification from the EFL in order to complete their purchase of the Championship side.

It has since been revealed that Bord is not the sole investor involved in the bid to buy the Yorkshire outfit.

It has been recently reported by The Star that Alsharif Faisal Bin Jamil and Felix Roemer are also backing the bid to take over the Owls, which has got the Hillsborough faithful taking as the takeover process continues to rumble on.

Here, we take a look at what we know about the pair’s source of wealth ahead of their potential purchase of Sheffield Wednesday

Felix Roemer’s name has emerged as one of the key investors behind the preferred bid to buy Sheffield Wednesday.

The 31-year-old is an investor in Short Circuit Science, a business founded by Bord, his partner in this bid to buy the Yorkshire outfit.

The company is a data analytics and AI firm that works in many sectors, including in sports, and they have previously worked with the Owls’ bitter rivals Sheffield United in their player recruitment.

It’s been reported that Roemer has a more behind-the-scenes role in the company, who also work in other industries like medical prescription technology and climate-related modelling.

Roemer is believed to be behind the data-driven approach to analysing player performance as part of his work with Short Circuit, and he is viewed as a key part of the running of this side of the business.

Short Circuit also work with Bord’s other clubs, such as Spanish side Cordoba, as well as Dunfermline of Scotland.

It’s likely that the company will play a key role at Sheffield Wednesday under the new owners, provided the deal goes through.

Separately from Short Circuit, it has been claimed that Roemer earned his money through the flipping of digital items on the online marketplace, such as crypto.

According to the Daily Mail, Bin Jamil is a member of the Jordanian royal family, and he has worked as their investment executive.

The 37-year-old’s background comes from venture capital, having worked as a partner at Milano Investment Partners since 2018.

The investment firm has reportedly become involved in fashion, food, lifestyle and deep technology.

Bin Jamil has an impressive academical background and has graduated from some of the UK’s most highly respected universities, such as Oxford, the University of London and Imperial College London.

The royal family member also has a background working as a director and member of the board at Ingame Sports.

This gives him experience with in-game prediction modelling, which he may look to utilise as part of Sheffield Wednesday.

With Bord’s background in poker, all three of the people involved in the takeover of Sheffield Wednesday have a history with a form of gambling.

It remains to be seen just yet whether the EFL will ratify their bid to buy the Championship side, as they will need to pass the Owners and Directors Test in order to finalise their agreement with Sheffield Wednesday’s administrators.
