The Owls went into administration in October due to the financial mismanagement they suffered under Dejphon Chansiri.

The Thai businessman has been removed as owner, and supporters now await confirmation that a takeover has been completed.

The bidding process began at the end of last year, with a preferred bidder being named in late December in the consortium led by James Bord.

Here we look at all the latest news surrounding the takeover process at Sheffield Wednesday

Bord’s bid to buy Sheffield Wednesday was named as the preferred choice by administrators Begbies Traynor on 24 December.

But, according to Alan Nixon, the deal may not be completed for a number of weeks just yet as EFL ratification is needed to get the deal over the line.

It’s believed that the league is preparing a lengthy test of the bid’s cash, meaning he is still yet to receive the green light to take over from Chansiri.

It’s understood that the former poker player’s bid has been fronted by funding from Bahrain, so it remains to be seen just when exactly this takeover could be ratified.

Neil Lennon is currently in charge of Dunfermline, who are co-owned by Bord and currently compete in the Scottish Championship.

The Northern Irishman has praised the impact that the American has had since taking over the club last January.

He believes that Bord has overseen a significant improvement behind the scenes at Dunfermline, which will be encouraging to hear for Sheffield Wednesday supporters.

"He's pleased with the progress we're making," said Lennon, via the Dunfermline Press.

"He knows that we're a work in progress and it's a transitional period.

“He's only been in the club a year, but you can see there has been significant improvement.

"He does want to help improve the squad.

“We're going to look at all aspects of that through January.

"I've got a great owner.

“That's half the battle when you're a manager.

"I've got a really positive, generous owner who loves the club.

“He's a forward thinker and I like working with him.

“As a manager, as a coach, they're hard to find."

Sheffield Wednesday have been placed under a transfer embargo by the EFL as part of their recent financial issues.

However, according to The Star, the Owls have now been given the green light to complete two new players to the squad during the January transfer window.

But manager Henrik Pedersen has warned that options remain limited, with fresh faces needed through the door due to injury issues throughout the squad.

The Yorkshire outfit have been able to bring in the likes of Harry Amass on loan, as well as free agents Nathan Redmond and Liam Cooper, this season despite their issues behind the scenes.

Sheffield Wednesday departure concerns

The January transfer window being open also means that players could depart Hillsborough, with relegation from the Championship now firmly on the cards.

According to The Star, promising forward Charlie McNeill could be set for an exit this month amid the club’s financial uncertainty.

The forward has scored three goals from 21 appearances in the second tier, and his recent performances have earned him the attention of a number of league rivals, leading to speculation over his future.

It’s also been claimed in another report by The Star that Amass’ future remains uncertain, but that the club are hoping to finalise the details with Man United so that he can finish the campaign in Pedersen’s side.
