A short-statured pitch invader gave stewards the runaround during West Brom’s final match of the season at Sheffield Wednesday, drawing loud cheers at Hillsborough.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, fans at the Championship fixture cheered the tattooed intruder as he ran onto the pitch.

Albion players appeared amused by the interruption.

It offered a brief moment of levity for travelling Baggies who saw their side lose 2-1 to the already relegated Owls.

Stewards tried repeatedly to catch the man, who slipped away more than once, before he was eventually seized and escorted from the field amid further applause.

Footage of the chase has since circulated online.
