Simon Adingra fades at Monaco after bright start amid wing-back struggles | OneFootball

After a promising February arrival, Simon Adingra has struggled at AS Monaco, often used at wing-back, and has only one goal involvement in his last nine matches.

According to Nice-Matin, the Ivorian arrived with Wout Faes and immediately brought dribbling and thrust to a team missing it. He hit a brace against Nantes in a 3-1 win and scored versus Angers in a 2-0 success, both in February.

Since then there has been little end product, just one assist at Toulouse, and reduced influence on the pitch. Repeatedly deployed as a wing-back, his versatility has not been obvious and he toiled at Metz and against Lille.

Defensively his positioning has been erratic and his slight frame has counted against him in duels, with Caio Henrique’s March injury narrowing alternatives. Coach Pocognoli has acknowledged the poor display against Lille, while insisting he was excellent in many other games, inconsistent over time, and, in his view, gave his maximum.

Off the pitch, the paid loan was agreed for 1 million and he remains in a hotel without his family, which the coach sees as a factor. He has played far more than at Sunderland and his average minutes rose from 49 to 57, restoring visibility before the World Cup.

He has been called up by Emerse Faé for the USA mission. It remains to be seen whether he stays beyond tonight’s final match, with an option to buy set at 17 million euros.
