According to Sky Germany, Barcelona are open to discussing offers for ter Stegen this winter, either in the form of a loan deal or a permanent transfer. Several clubs are believed to have already made initial enquiries about the 33-year-old goalkeeper, whose contract at Barcelona runs until 2028.
While ter Stegen remains one of Europe’s top goalkeepers, Barcelona’s financial situation and the player’s high salary are thought to be factors behind the club’s openness to negotiations. With Joan Garcia now at the club, too, ter Stegen is seemingly being pushed out of the club.
Ter Stegen, who joined Barça in 2014 from Borussia Mönchengladbach, has been a key figure in the team’s success over the past decade. However, recent seasons have seen growing uncertainty about his long-term future with his injury problems making life difficult for ter Stegen.
With interest building and the January window approaching, the coming weeks could prove decisive for one of Europe’s most accomplished goalkeepers.
DFB coach Julian Nagelsmann has also openly stated, that every player who wants to feature at next year's World Cup, needs to have a starting role in their club - this could be the main motivating factor for ter Stegen to try out a new challenge, as he wants to finally be Germany's starting goalkeeper.
