South Africa and Canada are set to meet in a historic encounter as they play their first-ever knockout match at a World Cup, clashing in the Round of 32 on Sunday at Los Angeles Stadium.
South Africa arrive at this stage in a determined fashion, sealing qualification with a hard-fought 1-0 win over South Korea in their final group game. Their approach has been built on a strong defensive organisation, especially after navigating a demanding opening match against Mexico.
Heading into this landmark fixture, South Africa will make a few notable squad changes.
Teboho Mokoena is back in contention after missing the previous match against South Korea due to suspension from accumulated yellow cards.
However, the team will still be without Themba Zwane. Their attempt to appeal his red card was unsuccessful, meaning he must complete a three-match suspension following his dismissal against Mexico.
Broos is likely to stick with a disciplined 4-2-3-1 system, focused on defensive strength and quick transitions.
Evidence Makgopa is expected to lead the line as the central striker, supported by Thapelo Maseko and Oswin Appollis on the wings.
Captain Ronwen Williams will start in goal, organising a well-drilled defence that will aim to secure yet another clean sheet on this major stage.
Possible South Africa starting XI: Williams; Mudau, Mbokazi, Okon, Modiba; Mbatha, Mokoena; Maseko, Mofokeng, Appollis; Makgopa
The match will kick off at 8pm BST on Sunday, 28th June.
UK viewers can watch this World Cup Round of 32 clash live on BBC One, with streaming available via BBC iPlayer.
