After selling Shea Charles for £30m, Southampton will want significantly more than that opening proposal. According to Fabrizio Romano, the club have made contact with Feyenoord over Anel Ahmedhodzic, and the defender is keen on a return to England.

The former Sheffield United centre-back, now with Feyenoord, could be a ready-made successor if Harwood-Bellis moves on.

Ahmedhodzic is cut from a similar cloth, composed in possession and powerful in the air.

He scored six Championship goals in 2022/23 for the Blades. Harwood-Bellis, who has also experienced promotion at this level, scored seven in the Championship for Southampton last season.

Southampton would prefer him to stay, yet with Charles already gone further exits cannot be discounted. Even amid the noise, Harwood-Bellis is expected to remain professional against Watford.
