Southampton striker Cyle Larin has been named Championship Player of the Month for August after scoring four goals in three league matches.
According to Daily Echo, the 31-year-old returned from the World Cup buoyed by Canada’s performances and also scored in the Carabao Cup first round.
He netted against Watford and Stoke City, then struck twice in a 5-1 win over in-form Millwall at St Mary’s. His second against the Lions featured a deft flick over a defender and a volley.
Larin beat Charlton Athletic defender Lloyd Jones, Middlesbrough striker Will Lankshear and Wolves midfielder Fer Lopez to the award. He is only the second Saints player to claim it, following Gareth Bale in August 2006.
EFL pundit Don Goodman noted that Larin had a short summer break after representing Canada at the World Cup and has returned in fine form, with four goals in three August games including a standout strike in the Millwall win.
