Ex-Santos left-back João Victor Souza has been nominated for the Golden Boy award for under-21 players in European football, run by Italy’s Tuttosport. According to Diario Do Peixe, the Tottenham defender is one of seven Brazilians selected and the third former Santos nominee this decade after Rodrygo and Ângelo Gabriel.

Souza has made four appearances for Tottenham, all in the Premier League. He debuted against Manchester United in February, becoming the youngest Brazilian to play for the club. He has also featured at right wing-back and further forward.

Sold by Santos in January, he earned a starting role last season and posted 30 games, one goal and two assists. The report adds that he drew attention from Brazil staff when assistants to coach Carlo Ancelotti watched Santos while checking on Neymar.

He has been a regular for Brazil’s youth teams, winning the South American Under-17 title in 2023 before playing at the World Cup.

Souza broke into Santos’s senior side in 2024 in the Paulistão and later Série B. He made 39 first-team appearances, delivering four assists and one goal.

Born in Mauá in 2006, he joined Santos at nine after futsal with Juventus, starting as a forward before switching to left-back and occasionally midfield.
