Spain’s Supreme Court has rejected Real Madrid’s appeal over concerts at the Santiago Bernabéu, keeping the dispute alive in Madrid’s courts rather than ruling on whether shows can take place.
According to Superdeporte, the case began when the Asociación Vecinal de Perjudicados por el Bernabéu asked the City Council to clarify whether licences tied to the stadium’s revamp also covered concerts, arguing the planning approvals do not permit them.
Madrid’s Administrative Court number 31 first refused to hear the claim, saying the City Council’s reply was not appealable and noting permits for extraordinary shows fall to the Community of Madrid.
The association appealed and the Madrid High Court agreed, telling the lower court to admit the case and examine the substance. Real Madrid then went to the Supreme Court, which refused the club’s challenge, so the file returns to Court number 31.
That court must now assess whether the City Council acted properly and whether the plan and licences allow concerts at the Bernabéu. This is a procedural win for residents, with the main question still unresolved.
In a statement, Real Madrid said the Supreme Court has not ruled on the concerts’ legality and that today’s decision is purely procedural, so the association’s case will continue before the competent court.
The club added there is no judicial decision declaring past concerts unlawful under planning rules or licences, and noted events at the Bernabéu are subject to the same authorisations as other major venues, such as the Metropolitano.
