Standout star turns tide for AZ at Heerenveen

Mexx Meerdink levelled it in the 69th minute with a left-footed strike, setting AZ up to beat Heerenveen 3-2.

The forward dragged AZ back into it with a curling effort from outside the box into the top left corner (69.), after finding room between the lines from Valdemar Byskov's pass. Moments later he forced Bernt Klaverboer into a low save from the left channel (70.).

He then supplied the decisive pass for Ayoub Oufkir to sweep in the winner on a fast break (83.), timing his release perfectly to punish space left in transition.

Meerdink finished with three attempts, two on target, one assist and five touches in the box, underlining how his movement and end product flipped the game in AZ's favour.

AZ are top of the Eredivisie and host Willem II next. Heerenveen welcome Telstar.
