Girona stumbled at Montilivi in a painful defeat against RCD Mallorca (0-1), in a match marked by the Girona side's lack of offensive precision and a lethal header just before halftime.
Míchel's team started with the intention of dominating and trying to find spaces against a well-organized Mallorca defense. Even so, the clear chances were for Girona, who came up against the Balearic wall. The clearest opportunity came from Echeverri in a one-on-one that Leo Román blocked.
When it seemed the match would reach halftime in a draw, the cold shower arrived. In the 43rd minute, Samu Costa took advantage of a cross in a counterattack to head the ball into the back of the net, putting Mallorca ahead with the visitors' first decisive blow.
In the second half, Girona tried to react with more drive. The substitutions brought some freshness, but clear chances did not materialize. Mallorca, on the other hand, managed their lead with professionalism, closing spaces and slowing the pace of the game.
With this defeat, Girona finds itself in a delicate situation, dangerously approaching the relegation zone. The schedule offers no respite, and the Girona side now faces four decisive matches to secure their survival, starting next Monday at 9 PM in a clash that could determine the team's immediate future against Rayo Vallecano.
