Vasco lost 2-1 to Audax Italiano at São Januário in the Copa Sudamericana, stretching their wait for a first win. Renato Gaúcho again rested most regulars, with focus on the Brasileirão.
Brenner put the hosts ahead, sliding in to meet Puma’s cross. JP saw red on 35 minutes for a second booking despite being fouled. Globo.com highlights who used their chance and who did not.
Up: Brenner showed penalty-box instinct to score, then, shifted to the left after JP’s dismissal, faded. Up: Hugo Moura was reliable, missed a good opening, but screened the centre well and stopped counters.
Down: Carlos Cuesta began solidly but ended poorly, conceding a late, avoidable penalty for the turnaround. He is very likely to start against São Paulo on Saturday because Saldivia is suspended.
Down: Marino Hinestroza looked off the pace, misplaced passes and slowed moves. He drew some jeers and, as a costly arrival, again fell below expectations.
Down: Lucas Piton was slow to recover for Audax’s first goal. Having pushed on, he left space for two runners to break in behind on his side.
