Sunderland have confirmed academy goalkeeper Isaac Allan has rejoined Hebburn Town on loan until January, ahead of the Hornets’ first National League North campaign.

The 20-year-old first arrived in March during the run-in to Hebburn’s Northern Premier League Premier Division title. He featured in a 2-1 win at Bamber Bridge in the penultimate game before a sickness outbreak at Sunderland prompted his recall. Callum Dobson then started the title-clinching home victory against Rushall Olympic a week later.

Manager Daniel Moore said losing Allan late last season was unusual and noted that Dobson performed well. He added he believes Allan has a real future, highlighting his calm leadership for a young goalkeeper. Moore said the staff are excited to work with him again and thanked Sunderland for their trust.

Goalkeeper coach Carl Morris said the loanee made a positive impact last term and showed the quality and mentality needed at senior level. He described Allan as having a bright future and said the club look forward to helping him take the next step in the National League North.

Saturday brings a historic home game with Southport.
