Sunderland have begun addressing season-ticket renewal complaints, with several fans offered solutions after contact from the club, according to Sunderland Echo.
Supporters had reported being unable to switch from corporate packages back to general admission, alongside direct debit and ticketing issues. The club told RAWA it would review individual cases and contact fans. Not every case is closed, but progress has been made.
Among them, Steven Poppleton, a 40-year supporter and 20-year season-ticket holder, sought to move from 76 Yards to general admission after his father George died. He was initially told to join the waiting list, then received a Friday afternoon apology call and an offer of general admission seats.
RAWA raised his case last week and said he would hear back by Monday. Poppleton thanked the Branch Liaison Council and those who publicised his situation, and he hopes others in similar positions are helped.
Other supporters have since received encouraging updates after raising concerns during renewals. In at least one case this includes next season ticket access and recognition of existing loyalty discounts. Some cases remain open.
Many fans felt loyalty was overlooked, with some priced out of hospitality by sharp increases and then told to join the waiting list to return to standard seating. Concerns also covered elderly supporters and direct debit problems. Those matters were discussed with interim chief executive Tom Burwell at a meeting RAWA called constructive, with the club understood to accept the need to improve the ticketing experience and work through individual cases.
