Régis Le Bris says Enzo Le Fée and Sunderland are being rewarded for the midfielder's strong call to swap AS Roma for the Championship last January, as he passes the 50-game mark and is central to a season that has surpassed many predictions.
According to Sunderland Echo, Le Fée helped secure promotion last season and has kicked on this term, delivering a brief but telling cameo in the Tyne-Wear derby as he returned from a minor muscle issue to play a key part in Brian Brobbey's late winner at St James' Park.
Le Bris, who previously coached him at Lorient, noted that the midfielder's career had stalled after early success, with difficult spells at Rennes and Roma. He believes this season's consistency shows the potential to become a great player rather than remain simply a prospect.
The head coach praised Le Fée's versatility, intelligence and connection with team-mates, highlighting his readiness to take on defensive work with purpose. He added that the 26-year-old is keen to keep learning, so there remains clear room for improvement.
Sunderland are hopeful Le Fée will be close to full fitness after the current break and in contention to start against Tottenham Hotspur at the Stadium of Light on 12 April. Having been an unused substitute against Newcastle United, Nordi Mukiele could also be in line to return to the starting XI, while goalkeeper Robin Roefs and left back Reinildo, like Le Fée, made very late impacts from the bench in the derby.
