Sunderland face a frantic finish to the January window and could use a deal sheet to buy extra time if late moves spill over.
Sunderland Echo understands the club are waiting on a domino that starts with Adil Aouchiche closing in on a permanent switch to Schalke, freeing a foreign loan spot.
That, in turn, would permit Simon Adingra to join AS Monaco on an initial loan with an option to buy. The winger only arrived in the summer but has struggled to make an impact and looks increasingly likely to depart.
If Adingra goes, Sunderland are expected to move for Anderlecht talent Nilson Angulo, who has six goals and four assists in 22 Belgian top-flight outings this season.
Promising winger Jocelin Ta Bi arrived in a £3.5 million deal from Maccabi Netanya. Goalkeeper Melker Ellborg joined from Malmo to provide cover and competition for Robin Roefs.
The window shuts at 7pm on Monday, February 2. Clubs can file a transfer deal sheet to confirm an agreement, which grants two extra hours to complete remaining paperwork. The form can be submitted from 5pm until the deadline, and once lodged, teams have until 9pm to finalise the move.
