Sunderland have dropped a striking hint at next season’s hummel kits, unveiling Elvis imagery during post-match scenes after the 2-1 win over Chelsea that clinched Europa League football for 2026/27.
“We thank the club for backing us because they would have had other offers but they’ve stuck their neck out and gone for Hummel,” Burke said. He was speaking to the i paper.
On the main scoreboard, the club crest sat to the left and Elvis Presley’s trademark to the right, both in pink on a black background.
Supporters then received a club email titled 'Elvis - Episode One', using the same colours, with the message 'some things are meant to be', nodding to Presley's Can't Help Falling in Love that has become Sunderland’s anthem. 'Arriving this summer' closed the teaser.
Wise Men Say has soundtracked the club’s climb to the Premier League’s upper half, and it looks set to be marked over coming years through themed kit ranges. The pink and black palette could reference Presley's early suit, depicted by Austin Butler in Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 biopic.
Sunderland and hummel have extended their partnership on improved commercial terms. hummel are expected to release two retro ranges based on the 1988-1994 kits next season, with the three main kits and ranges slated for June, July and August.
