Sunderland have activated Simon Moore’s one-year extension, keeping the 36-year-old goalkeeper for another season after praise from Robin Roefs and Luke O’Nien.

Sunderland Echo reports that Moore’s contract was due to expire on 30 June 2026, and the 12-month option is understood to have been triggered some time ago, keeping him on Wearside for at least another year.

Moore arrived in June 2024 on a two-year deal while the club were in the Championship, making his first league appearance against Oxford United in October 2024 when Anthony Patterson was injured.

He played four league games before Patterson returned, plus two more in the cups. He has not featured this season, yet his influence within the group has been stressed behind the scenes.

A senior presence in a young goalkeeping department, he works closely with Roefs, 23, and Melker Ellborg, 22. He is also working towards coaching badges, supported at the Academy of Light.

Roefs has repeatedly highlighted Moore’s help since moving from the Netherlands. He said earlier this season, “He made me feel really comfortable, really at home. He’s been so great for me.”

O’Nien offered similar praise earlier in the campaign, calling Moore the unsung hero of last season’s promotion and saying he kept a Moore shirt in his locker to maintain standards when he was not playing.
