Sunderland are joint top of the Premier League for points won after falling behind, a testament to Regis Le Bris’ resilient side.
Sunderland Echo highlights the spirit that has defined their top-flight return. Promotion was sealed with a 2-1 win over Sheffield United in last season’s Championship play-off final, then Granit Xhaka, Brian Brobbey and Robin Roefs arrived in a striking summer window.
The campaign has also featured hard-earned draws with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City. They have collected 19 points from losing positions, a total matched only by Aston Villa.
Standout turnarounds include Brobbey’s winner at Newcastle, Chemsdine Talbi’s late strike in the 2-1 success at Chelsea and Wilson Isidor’s clincher against Brentford at the Stadium of Light.
Brentford remain in the hunt for Europe, and three league games are still to play.
