Sunderland ‘make approach’ for Óscar Mingueza, set to leave Celta Vigo | OneFootball

Sunderland have made an approach for Spanish defender Óscar Mingueza, with Atalanta and Como also making early moves, according to Italian journalist Matteo Moretto.

The 27-year-old will leave Celta Vigo as a free agent this summer.

A Barcelona academy graduate with four Spain caps, he has been a regular since 2022. Primarily a right back, he can also cover left back and centre back.

Sunderland are seeking defensive reinforcements following the departure of Dennis Cirkin, while Lutsharel Geertruida’s future remains unresolved. Talks continue over a permanent return, but the option to buy was not triggered and a comeback is far from certain amid outside interest.

Mingueza played 34 La Liga matches last term and featured 11 times in the Europa League. He has also been linked with Aston Villa and Newcastle United.
