In a recent post on X, journalist Matteo Moretto mentioned that Sunderland are in the running to recruit Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza. It is understood that the Black Cats would have to rival Atalanta and Como in the race to sign the Spanish full-back this summer.
Mingueza enjoyed a solid campaign at the Spanish club recently as he has put in a string of impressive displays for them in La Liga. The 27-year-old scored one goal and grabbed six assists in 47 matches for Celta Vigo last season in various competitions.
The Spanish talent is currently one of the most experienced full-backs in La Liga. Therefore, it is no surprise that the Black Cats are keeping a keen eye on recruiting him later this year.
His current contract at the Spanish club will run out at the end of June. Hence, Sunderland could potentially sign him on a free transfer this summer.

Mingueza is a solid tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to secure possession back for his team on the defensive end of the field. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can play his way out from the back.
The Spanish sensation is primarily a right-back but can also serve as a central defender or play as a right-sided wide player if told to do so. However, there are some concerns over whether he can adapt to the physicality and high intensity of Premier League campaign if the Black Cats manage to get a deal done for him this summer.
We can expect Mingueza to add more bite and steel to Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris’ defence. He is good enough to challenge for a regular first-team spot at the Stadium of Light next season.
At 27, Mingueza has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a decent choice for the Wearside club to consider in this transfer window. Furthermore, he is available on a free transfer and would be an affordable option for Le Bris to pursue in this summer transfer window.
