Sunderland are monitoring European developments ahead of the summer window, with fresh lines on Gonzalo Garcia and Ousmane Dembélé, and an injury blow for recent opponents Tottenham Hotspur.
The Athletic reports Real Madrid are prepared to listen to offers for 22-year-old forward Gonzalo Garcia this summer, but are not open to selling 19-year-old striker Endrick, who is on loan at Lyon. L’Équipe suggests Ousmane Dembélé is currently unwilling to discuss a contract extension at Paris Saint-Germain, and a move to the Premier League has been described as a possibility.
Both Garcia and Endrick were loosely linked with Sunderland last year as the club assessed young, high-upside forwards, although no move followed.
Dembélé’s situation has drawn interest on Wearside given his personal connection with chairman Kyril Louis-Dreyfus. The France international has attended Sunderland games during his Barcelona spell, yet there is no indication the Black Cats would pursue him. Any approach would mark a major shift, with Europe’s elite expected to compete if he becomes available.
Closer to home, Spurs captain Cristian Romero is set to miss the rest of the season after injury in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at the Stadium of Light. The Argentina defender went off following a collision with goalkeeper Antonín Kinský while attempting to deal with Brian Brobbey.
Reports indicate Romero will not feature again at club level this campaign, though there remains hope he could recover in time for the World Cup.
