Sunderland’s owners have insisted they remain fully committed to the club amid claims they are exploring a sale. The club said preparations for a second Premier League campaign are under way.

Footbiz reports that potential investors were told Sunderland was available and that US investment bank Moelis had been retained. Moelis previously worked on the sale of Chelsea.

The owners did not directly deny the claims, stating they were entirely committed and were aggressively planning for next season after securing Premier League safety.

Kyril Louis-Dreyfus holds a 64% stake and Juan Sartori 36%, with ownership through parent company Mercator. The club also sits within their wider portfolio via Bia Sports Group, whose executives occupy several senior roles at Sunderland, some on an interim basis.

Bia chief executive Tom Burwell is a non-executive director on the Sunderland board and is serving as interim chief executive following David Bruce’s departure. Scott McCubbin is interim chief revenue officer and Mike Papadimitriou is chief financial officer. Last month Burwell said Sunderland is the clear priority within their portfolio, adding that Bia’s leaders largely act as an advisory board for other businesses given the club’s relevance, revenue, valuation and opportunity.
