Sunderland are yet to decide whether to pursue a £21m deal for Ernest Poku as Florent Ghisolfi assesses attacking options.

Bild reports that Bayer Leverkusen could move players on from an oversized squad, with Poku available for about €25 million, approximately £21.4 million at current rates.

The Netherlands Under-21 winger, 22, joined Leverkusen from AZ Alkmaar last summer for €10 million plus up to €2 million in bonuses, and is under contract until 2030. He primarily plays on the right but can operate centrally or from the left.

Poku made 45 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring five and assisting eight, and was increasingly used from the bench late in the campaign. The report also noted interest from Sunderland and Nottingham Forest.

Régis Le Bris and Ghisolfi are shaping the squad for a campaign featuring the Premier League and Europa League. Poku’s versatility would offer the head coach useful cover across a congested schedule.
