Sunderland are on course to post record revenue following their Premier League return, with income projected to top their previous £126million high. Football Insider reports the club’s 2024-25 accounts show revenue rising from £38.2million to £40.3million in the promotion season.

Régis Le Bris’s side are 11th after a dramatic 2-1 derby win at St James’s Park. Maintaining that position could be worth in excess of £130million in prize money and broadcast revenue.

Any uplift would strengthen Sunderland’s long-term sustainability and transfer scope as the club refines its recruitment model under sporting director Florent Ghisolfi.

On Tyneside, Brian Brobbey’s late winner sparked wild scenes as he ripped off his shirt in front of the Newcastle supporters and beat his chest, with the footage quickly going viral.

“Not for that. I trained hard, yeah, I trained very hard,” he said. “I have been to the gym a lot. Naturally, I was very happy. It’s a derby.” He told ESPN.

Asked if it was a response to Dutch media criticism, he added: “No, that doesn’t have to have anything to do with the Netherlands at all. I was just very happy.”
