Sunderland’s historic World Cup presence, with 12 representatives, is expected to hand the club a modest financial lift through FIFA’s Club Benefit Programme.
Switzerland's quarter-final defeat to Argentina ended the club's involvement. According to Sunderland Echo, FIFA pays about €5,000 per player per day, including pre-tournament camp days.
Wilson Isidor was the only Sunderland player to exit at the group stage, although he scored in Haiti’s final game, with his stint estimated to be worth around €125,000.
Round of 32 exits are expected to be worth roughly €150,000 each for eight players, Robin Roefs, Lutsharel Geertruida, Brian Brobbey, Noah Sadiki, Arthur Masuaku, Nilson Angulo, Habib Diarra and Simon Adingra.
Paraguay, with Omar Alderete, reached the last 16 before losing to France, lifting his figure to about €175,000. For Chemsdine Talbi and Granit Xhaka, the tally is likely to edge close to €200,000. Combined, payments are estimated at around €1.55 million, or £1,160,000.
The sum will likely be shared with other clubs, as most arrived last summer, and past tournaments split fees across the previous two years. FIFA also pays €2,362 per qualification appearance, slightly increasing totals for Xhaka, Sadiki and Alderete.
Academy graduate Jordan Pickford’s form for England and Jordan Henderson’s influence added to the pride. Returns will be phased, with some early exits joining the USA trip next week. Xhaka and Talbi will rest and are likely back before August’s final pre-season games.
