AS Monaco have been in the market for an attacker for much of the window and the club are now on the verge of completing a deal to sign Sunderland’s Simon Adingra (24), as per a report from Fabrizio Romano.
Takumi Minamino suffered an ACL injury back at the end of December, forcing the Principality club into the market. Monaco tried to re-sign Bayer Leverkusen winger Eliesse Ben Seghir, but the latter’s ankle sprain has put an end to Monaco’s pursuit.
L’Équipe first revealed Monaco’s interest in Adingra earlier on deadline day. The winger has not been a nailed-on starter for Sunderland head coach Régis Le Bris off the back of his €24m move from Brighton and Hove Albion FC last summer. The Ivory Coast international only started nine Premier League games with the Black Cats.
Romano now understands that he is set to join Les Monégasques on loan. Monaco will pay a €1m loan fee and have an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season for €17m. A visa is being sorted for Adingra, ahead of a medical.
