Lamare Bogarde is reportedly on the Swans' radar this month

According to reports, Swansea City want to sign Aston Villa youngster Lamare Bogarde on loan this month to bolster their ranks in both defence and midfield ahead of a potential play-off push in the second-half of the season.

The Swans currently sit 13th after 27 games with 34 points on the board, but are yet to make a signing in the January window as yet as the deadline draws ever closer.

Luke Williams may well be relatively happy with his squad, but off the back of their torrid 3-0 defeat in the South Wales Derby on Saturday, they are likely to want to accelerate any possible deals over the next week to bring some fresh faces into the reckoning.

Bogarde is highly-rated at Villa, and he has fully broken through into Unai Emery's first-team squad this season, with appearances in both the Premier League and Champions League.

The 21-year-old can play in numerous positions in both the backline and middle of the park, and his decent form so far this term has seemingly alerted Swansea to his potential availability over the coming weeks.

Journalist Darren Witcoop has claimed, via X, that Swansea have enquired about signing Aston Villa man Bogarde on loan this month.

He also states that there is interest from elsewhere in the Dutchman's signature, and also from overseas clubs.

Bogarde has previously been linked with a move to the Championship in transfer windows gone by, after The Athletic reported this time last year that Sunderland were keen to bring Bogarde to the Stadium of Light on loan, while they also faced competition for his services from the likes of Cardiff City, Watford and Southampton said to be interested too, as well as Scottish Premiership outfit Aberdeen.

He instead remained at Villa Park for the rest of the season, after not long being recalled from a loan spell at League One Bristol Rovers, but journalist Witcoop soon revealed in July that Villa were looking to send him out on loan once again, with interest from the Championship and abroad.

Once again, he has not left Unai Emery's side as yet, but more additions to his squad could see the 21-year-old depart to an interested club in the coming weeks.

Lamare Bogarde would be a solid signing for Swansea if a deal can be done

The Dutchman's rise has been somewhat of a surprise one this season, with his previous experience of senior football only coming at the aforementioned Bristol Rovers, following two separate loan spells with the Gas in both the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons.

He signed a new long-term deal at Villa in the summer, so is clearly well-rated by boss Emery and many at the club, while he then made his debut in the Premier League in August, and won plaudits for his performance against Leicester City that saw him named in BBC Sport's Team of the Week.

The versatile defender/midfielder has been deployed in numerous positions so far this term in both the top-flight and Champions League, with seven first-team appearances up to now, including four starts across three different competitions.

His game-time has been limited in recent months, however, with just one appearance in the last 10 Villa games, so it would come as little shock to see them sanction a loan move to the Championship in the coming weeks, especially with Levante right-back Andres Garcia reportedly set to sign soon.

Swansea would be getting a very flexible player if they were to land Bogarde soon, as well as one with recent experience of playing at the very top level, so it seems like a real potential coup and a loan move that their fans should be excited about, if it goes through.
