Swansea City simply have to copy Cardiff City's £3.3 million transfer trick from Sirius for Yousef Salech this summer...
It's entirely possible that Swansea City may already know where they should look if the club are forced into life after Zan Vipotnik this summer and it involves Yousef Salech of Cardiff City.
Their Slovenian striker has enjoyed a sensational 2025/26 campaign in South Wales, finishing as the Championship’s Golden Boot winner with 23 goals and has established himself as one of the division’s most clinical strikers.
Naturally, that level of output is going to attract attention from clubs operating at a higher level, and Swansea could soon face a difficult battle to retain him. Should the worst happen and Vipotnik move on, the Swans would need to act smartly in the market rather than simply spending big on an established replacement.
Fortunately for them, there may already be a blueprint available just down the road in Cardiff. That's because, back in January 2025, Cardiff City spent around £3.3 million to sign Yousef Salech from Swedish side Sirius.

While eyebrows may have been raised at the time, the Danish striker quickly showed why the Bluebirds were willing to take that gamble. The move highlighted the value that can still be found in Scandinavian markets, particularly in Sweden, where clubs continue to develop talented young players capable of stepping up to English football.
Salech scored eight and assisted one in a half-season of just 20 games with Cardiff. He then bagged 14 with four assists in League One this season. The 24-year-old will be a key player next term back in the Championship, which highlights the risks that can be taken from Sweden.
Swansea themselves have already dipped into Sirius’ squad recently with the signing of Leo Walta, so there is clearly already some level of familiarity and scouting connection between the clubs. With that in mind, revisiting the Swedish outfit this summer could make perfect sense if Vipotnik departs.
One player, in particular, stands out as an ideal target. That player is Robbie Ure, with the young Scot one of the most prolific forwards in Sweden this season and looking increasingly destined for a move before long. The former Rangers youngster has developed impressively since leaving Scotland.
He spent time with RSC Anderlecht, emerging into a physically imposing yet technically sharp centre-forward capable of leading the line effectively. He has refined that further since joining Sirius in 2025, as something of a long-term replacement for Salech.
At just 22 years old, there is still plenty of development ahead of him too, which only increases his appeal. Ure has shown to combine mobility with clever movement inside the box, while his finishing instincts have become increasingly more deadly during his time at Sirius.
So far this season, he has smashed in 10 goals in 13 games. On top of that, he has added three assists. Overall, Ure has 21 goals and seven assists in 43 games for Sirius. The excellent thing, which is why he compares well with Salech, is that he is not simply a poacher or powerful forward either.
His link-up play is seemingly improving by the game and his ability to stretch defences also makes him what many would consider to be a modern attacking profile that would likely suit Swansea’s style as a Vipotnik replacement.

Replacing a striker like Vipotnik is never going be straightforward, especially considering the goals he delivered this season, but Swansea cannot afford to stand still if significant bids arrive. Finding value in alternative markets is becoming increasingly important for Championship clubs operating without parachute payments, too.
Sirius have already proven they can produce players capable of adapting quickly to the level. Ure is 6'2" and has the physicality and talent for a move to English football. He is sure to have suitors already, with more by the game as he continues performing in the Allsvenskan.
Their rivals Cardiff may have stolen a march on the Swans with the Salech signing, but Swansea now have an opportunity to follow a very similar path themselves. They will have contingency plans for Vipotnik's departure but Ure should be on their shortlist.
If they are serious about succession planning in attack, then Ure could be exactly the type of ambitious, forward-thinking signing worth pursuing this summer. It's a risk but one worth taking.
