Tebas urges rethink of 2030 bid if Infantino re-elected and final in Morocco | OneFootball

LaLiga president Javier Tebas said Spain should reconsider its 2030 World Cup project with Morocco and Portugal if Gianni Infantino is re-elected and FIFA gives the final to Morocco.

Speaking after the opening day of the World Football Summit at La Nave in Madrid, he said Spain must at least rethink its stance. According to Superdeporte, he was not sure about pulling out.

He added that, if Infantino secures another term, Spain’s chances of staging the final would be minimal. Infantino has led FIFA since 2016, with the next election scheduled for March.

Tebas said Infantino is not credible and that it would be an embarrassment for football if he stayed after that vote. He alleged a World Cup red card was overturned following a call, and said plans to privatise part of the tournament’s commercial rights worry him less than other issues.

He argued that any continuation would reflect a clientelist system in which many federations need money and depend on FIFA.

On a potential rival candidate to the Italian-Swiss president, he said there is still time, noting that 18 November is the deadline to present a candidate. He stressed he is not involved and would not name anyone.

Tebas also addressed Betis winger Ez Abde wearing a shirt supporting Ceuta before Monday’s match with Villarreal. He called the row collateral damage from what he described as an invasion in Ceuta, saying it is not about immigration and noting that some Moroccan citizens claim the city is not Spanish.
