Edin Terzic deepened his focus on Athletic’s academy at Lezama, drafting 12 youngsters into first team training before Saturday’s San Mamés meeting with Atlético, which ended 3-0.
On Campo 5, with mannequins, tapes and poles set out, Oyono, Vizcay, Larrea, Conde, Izagirre and Huestamendia joined Santos, Monreal and Selton in a collective session. As reported by as.com, Terzic greeted each player with a palm-to-palm salute, underlining his closeness to the group.
On Sunday, the first team’s day off, the German coach watched Bilbao Athletic in Primera Federación alongside sporting director Mikel González. He sat in the central stand at Lezama with Loroño, Boluka and Lizarralde, observing Bittor LLopis’s side.
The second team beat Avilés 2-1, where Aldai and Sillero play, through a long-range strike from right-back Belategi and a finish from Peciña inside the area. Terzic saw Sarasketa, recently signed from Eibar to bolster left back, the debut of the imposing Imga from Alavés, plus Santos, Monreal, Selton, Beñat García, Larrea and striker Vizcay after a productive loan at Arenas.
It is a talented crop that Terzic is steadily getting to know as he prepares from Tuesday for Elche. He is familiarising himself in case he needs to call on any of them over the campaign.
