Chelsea are currently in the midst of their search for yet another head coach after they sacked Liam Rosenior last month.

Rosenior was the second head coach to leave Stamford Bridge this season after Enzo Maresca’s departure in January.

David Ornstein on the Chelsea job

Chelsea are thought to have a shortlist of five or six names, with Xabi Alonso said to be the preferred candidate at this stage.

Andoni Iraola is believed to be a strong contender, whilst it’s been reported Chelsea have also made checks on Marco Silva, Filipe Luis and Oliver Glasner.

Given the issues with the ownership and how the club’s run, many people have said coaches won’t want to work there, something Ornstein has dismissed.

“Many people sort of quite flippantly say no coach will want to work there [at Chelsea],” he told The Athletic FC Podcast.

“That’s just nonsense. Coaches want these jobs. Chelsea’s a massive club. It’s got a storied recent history.”

It’s been reported Chelsea hope to have their new head coach in place before the World Cup starts next month.
