FC Bayern has reorganized its decision-making structures in the transfer market. Sporting Director Max Eberl is expected to benefit from this in several ways—and Vincent Kompany also plays a crucial role in this.

At FC Bayern, important personnel decisions are now shared among several people. As was recently reported, the record-holding champion has established a permanent transfer committee that discusses player signings and departures and sets the course for squad planning.

According to BILD soccer editor-in-chief Christian Falk, this structure primarily benefits sporting director Max Eberl. “Ever since Max Eberl joined the club, FC Bayern has wanted to establish a transfer committee under the supervisory board. Now that has happened. The supervisory board notes that Eberl is involving it more closely, and there is a serious commitment to transparency,” he explained.

The 51-year-old has recognized that transfers can be carried out much more easily when the key decision-makers are involved at an early stage.

Kompany plays a key role in transfers

According to Falk, close coordination with Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, in particular, is paying off: “I believe Max Eberl himself has realized that it’s easier to complete a transfer if he involves his colleagues in Bayern’s leadership—in this case, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeneß—in the discussions before deciding on a transfer.”

Another decisive factor, he says, is the great trust the club’s leadership places in Vincent Kompany. The Bayern coach personally lobbied for the signings of Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari, thereby contributing significantly to the success of the transfers.

“He now has a huge advantage. They really trust Vincent Kompany, which means that if the Belgian head coach wants a player—as was the case with Nathaniel Brown and Saibari—that can help push through transfers. That’s how it was with Kompany, who called both players quite early on. Ultimately, that makes it easier for Max Eberl to finalize the transfers,” said Falk.

According to the Münchner Abendzeitung, the transfer committee includes not only Eberl but also CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, President Herbert Hainer, and supervisory board members Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. Only once there is consensus within this committee is the entire supervisory board brought in.

Falk also sees this as a personal advantage for Eberl: “Eberl was transparent regarding the costs of both transfers, but when you have the supervisory board on your side, you can seal the deals. Perhaps it will now be easier for Max Eberl to secure a new contract for the future.”
