Los Angeles – Everything is set for a new edition of the oldest rivalry in Mexican soccer. Chivas wrapped up their preparation at Cal State LA ahead of this Sunday’s Clásico Tapatío, which will be played in front of a sold-out crowd at BMO Stadium.

Prior to the training session at the university facilities, Diego Campillo and Daniel Aguirre spoke to local media in the mixed zone, where both agreed that facing their fiercest rival from Jalisco is never truly a friendly match, and that they will go all out to secure the win.

“I think the group is prepared for this match. We know what we came for, which is to win and compete. We feel good,” said the Rojiblanco player.

The support from fans in the United States has been constant since the team’s arrival—something the academy product greatly values and sees as extra motivation heading into the match.

“You can feel their presence from the hotel, from the airport. It’s great to know there are people here supporting us, and we won’t let them down. Tomorrow we’re going all in,” he stated.

Regarding what it means to once again play in the Clásico Tapatío, Campillo made it clear that, even though it’s a friendly, the level of intensity and demand does not change.

“I don’t think it’s about revenge, but it’s played at full intensity. A clásico always has a special flavor, whether it’s a friendly or a league match,” he explained.

He also highlighted the pride within the group seeing several teammates called up to the Selección Mexicana, a reflection of the team’s strong collective form.

“It’s a source of pride to see several teammates in the national team. We know they’ll represent us in the best way,” he added.

For his part, Daniel Aguirre emphasized the importance of making the most of the FIFA international break to maintain the team’s good form and competitive rhythm.

“We’re coming off a good process, a good run. I think we’re doing things well and we’re going to keep it that way. The FIFA break is to stay on that path,” he pointed out.

He also expressed how pleased he is with his recent contract renewal, as he is playing for the club he dreamed of since childhood and hopes to soon crown that effort with a title.

“I’m happy. I’ve always wanted to be here; it’s the club I grew up watching. I’m grateful for this opportunity, and I will always give 100 percent, both in training and in every match,” he said.

Finally, Aguirre highlighted the connection with the Rojiblanco fans, who have once again shown up in Los Angeles to support the team.

“We know the fans are always there, no matter where they come from. They’re truly loyal, and all we can do is thank them for their support,” he concluded.

With five matches remaining in Liga MX and a positive streak underway, El Rebaño will look to use this match in the United States as momentum to defend and maintain the top spot in the overall standings.
