Divock Origi, Liverpool’s cult hero, remains without a club, his Instagram showing him courtside for Brooklyn Nets v Indiana Pacers while Liverpool and Nottingham Forest were in Premier League action.
According to NY Times, Milan terminated his deal in December and January looked a chance to restart, yet he remained unattached after Paris Fashion Week. His last outing was a late cameo for Forest at Everton on 21 April 2024.
At Liverpool he built a highlights reel, from a 94th-minute winner against Everton in December 2018, to two against Barcelona in May 2019, then the clincher in the 2-0 Champions League final, and an April 2022 derby goal.
Jurgen Klopp repeatedly praised his finishing and character, team-mates embraced the cult-hero tag, and the club still marks his big moments online. Off the pitch, in 2021 he funded a University of Liverpool scholarship, with the final cohort due to graduate in September 2029.
Origi joined Milan on a free in 2022 on a four-year deal, arriving with a thigh injury and scoring on his first start against Monza that October. The signing was driven by Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara despite internal data concerns over limited minutes, but he rarely featured.
A loan to Forest in 2023-24 brought 22 appearances, eight starts and one goal, in an FA Cup replay against Bristol City. Back at Milan he was frozen out of first-team plans, his exit confirmed with a 25-word statement on 23 December. At 30, his next step is unclear.
