Signing a new goalkeeper this summer isn’t a priority right now, with Chelsea set to assess Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen and Mike Penders according to journalist Simon Johnson.

The goalkeeper situation at Stamford Bridge is a complex one, with Sanchez impressing for the majority of the season.
However, despite that he was dropped for Jorgensen for the win against Aston Villa, and the first leg against PSG, a decision which backfired spectacularly for Liam Rosenior.
Liam Rosenior has insisted he doesn’t work with a number one keeper, and picks based on the opposition, but rotation and uncertainty between the sticks isn’t good.
Both Jorgensen and Sanchez have made mistakes this season, and it’s once again shone a light on that position at the club.
Jorgensen is currently sidelined after undergoing surgery on a minor groin issue, and Jamie Carragher feels Chelsea won’t progress until they address the goalkeeper situation.
The Blues have insisted they believe in their current options, and Johnson has now provided an update on the situation.
“Things change, but I don’t think a new keeper is a priority right now. Chelsea will assess all three – Penders, Sanchez, Jorgensen – again in the summer,” he said via Reddit.
“The difficulty for them is they have high hopes for Penders long-term, but he is still young. Do they run the risk of bringing him in too early and damaging his confidence if he has to learn in the PL?
“It helps that Rosenior is in charge of course. He knows him well from Strasbourg, obviously.”
Chelsea had the opportunity to sign Mike Maignan last summer but opted against meeting AC Milan’s valuation, and Johnson feels the Blues are wary of possibly blocking the pathway for Penders.
“If they sign another big-name keeper, it runs the risk of blocking his pathway/development,” he added.

“Chelsea did see Maignan as a good compromise last summer, but knowing he could start talks over being a free agent in January, did not see AC Milan’s asking price of 25m as being good value.
“We shouldn’t forget that until the Arsenal Carabao Cup semi-final, Sanchez was having a very good season.”
