Xabi Alonso believes the Chelsea squad can be shaped in his image, but a few tweaks will be required according to reports.
Chelsea confirmed the appointment of Alonso as their new manager on Sunday morning, and he’s signed a four year deal at Stamford Bridge.
Unlike Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior, Alonso has been given the title of manager, which in theory indicates he’ll have more control.
The appointment of Alonso is a real coup for Chelsea, and is arguably the first time BlueCo have made an elite level appointment.
Chelsea’s players are said to be happy about Alonso’s arrival, and there’s no doubt the 44-year-old will command the respect of the dressing room from day one.
Alonso will have his work cut out, with the Blues qualifying for the Champions League just once in the last four seasons.
The Blues have quality in the squad, but it needs serious reinforcements, and The Guardian have reported Alonso believes the squad can be shaped in his image.
The report adds a few tweaks will be required, with a world class goalkeeper and better wingers needed, and more support for Joao Pedro up front.
It’s been reported Chelsea expect to challenge for the Premier League within three years, but in order for that to happen the recruitment must be spot on.
