Hansi Flick must have sighed a breath of relief as FC Barcelona were able to return to winning ways last night after having been unable to win their last two games.
The Blaugranes got a 3-0 victory over Brest in the UEFA Champions League, thus clearing their way to a direct qualification to the Round of 16.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, Flick addressed the customary press conference after this game and expressed his happiness with the team’s performance and the result:
“I’m very happy. We deserved it with the three goals; we could have scored more, but I’m pleased because coming off the match against Celta and delivering this performance is very good.”
Robert Lewandowski also returned to scoring ways in this match as he scored two goals, but the German tactician highlighted the role of the entire team in making these goals possible:
“The team helps Robert score these goals. He takes responsibility, knows he has to score them, and positions himself to do so. The team is wonderful.”
Another player whom Flick praised in this presser was Gerard Martin, who had a point to prove after his poor performance in the last game against Celta Vigo: “It’s great that Gerard had the chance to play. He did very well.”
The Barcelona head coach was also impressed by his midfield duo of Pedri and Casado but made it clear that their partnership does not surprise him:
“No, I’m not surprised. I see them every day in training, and they’re excellent. Pedri was incredible with the ball, and Dani scored. I’m very happy.”
At the end of the game, Flick was seen talking to Yamal, and he revealed what he told the youngster at that point: “I told him I hope he’ll be with us on Saturday against Las Palmas.”
However, the German was not that generous when asked about his conversation with Dani Olmo, as he responded with a laugh to a question in this regard: “Next time, you come with me and listen.”
After the rather tense post-match presser following the Celta Vigo game, it was clear that Flick was significantly more relaxed in this press conference, which is natural as his team got a win. Hopefully, the team will continue to build on this success, and also return to winning ways in La Liga this weekend.
