Arne Slot's Liverpool future is up in the air.

Ever since the Anfield outfit went on their huge losing streak, questions have been asked about whether the Dutchman is the right man to take the club forward.

And, even though there have been times when the best version of the Reds has shone though, those moments have been far too rare to make much of a difference.

Indeed, Slot did bring the Premier League title back to L4 last season but, with the club now sitting outside of the top four and gearing up to face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, it feels inevitable that the 2025-26 campaign isn't going to end how fans anticipated.

Of course, all the blame can't be placed upon Slot's shoulders but, after what one of his players did for his country on Friday night, it's now clearer than ever why the former Feyenoord boss has to go.

was the second-biggest arrival of the summer for Liverpool.

The transfer of the German was massively exciting to the Reds' fans with many believing that he'd bring a new creative edge to their team.

And, while that has happened on occasion with his partnership with Hugo Ekitike making headlines, there has been more than one occasion when his transfer has felt pointless.

Indeed, injuries have meant that the Reds' strongest team hasn't always been available but, due to Slot's trust in Cody Gakpo, it's clear that the Dutchman has failed to unleash the best version possible of Wirtz.

This is proven by the fact that the German now has the same amount of goals and assists with his national team as he does in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old contributed to four goals against Switzerland on Friday evening while playing on the left-wing.

However, with Liverpool, Slot only seems to play him in the centre and, even when he does use him on the left, he's never played to his strengths which is why Slot has to go.

Arne Slot's time as Liverpool's manager must come to an end

Some may say that there are many reasons to keep Slot around due to his Premier League win and the fact that the Reds are still in the Champions League.

However, over the last few months, the cracks have started to show with some players such as Mohamed Salah being a shadow of their former selves.

Indeed, the story of the Egyptian King is going to come to an end in the summer but, even with the players that Liverpool are being linked with at the moment, it's clear that they need someone else at the helm to get the best out of them.

Xabi Alonso would arguably be the perfect replacement.

He's already managed to get the best out of Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong during his time in charge of Bayer Leverkusen and his vision seems to align with the Reds'.

And, the fact that he's already experienced what it's like to be adored by Liverpool's fanbase means that he should be able to quickly adjust to the fans' expectations.

It's unclear how things will pan out by the end of the season but, if the Anfield outfit don't manage to make it past PSG in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, it'll almost certainly be curtains for the Dutchman.
